Del Rio Host Lions Celebrate 80 Years of Service
March 15, 2008 the Del Rio Host Lions Club gathered with family members
and friends to commemorate their 80th anniversary. Keynote speaker
Everett "Ebb" Grindstaff, Past International
President of the International Association of Lions Clubs remunerated the
accomplishments of the Host Lions Club during the past 80 years, and challenged
the club continue its service. Quoting Helen Keller, PIP Grindstaff
called upon the Host Lions to continue to be "knights for the blind," and
to expand their service to Del Rio.

Vice District Governor
in Stride for Site

District 2-A2 Vice District Governor Manny Carrillo made a historic "stride
for sight" during the Midwinter Conference in Del Rio January 18 and 19,
2008. Dawning a quilt more closely resembling a leopard than a Lion,
VDG Manny lead a contingent including District Governor Warren Weir, Past
District Governors and fellow Lions in a fund raiser for the District 2-A2
Site Research Foundation.
The Site Research Foundation funds the mobile eye screen unit,
the Lions
Low Vision Center and the Lions Eye Pathology Laboratory at the University
of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. Through these programs
the Lions of District 2-A2 provide vision and glaucoma screening, low vision
research and treatment, and other vision services for several thousand
Texans each year.

It's a stark fact. By the time you finish reading this page, one child
somewhere in the world will have gone blind.
One child goes blind every minute.
But Lions will not allow “nothing to be done.” True to our commitment
to be “knights of the blind,” Lions have launched Campaign SightFirst II
to prevent this tragedy. CSFII has set out to raise at least US$150 million
to continue and expand the extraordinary work of SightFirst, Lions worldwide
program to combat preventable blindness. |
Clean Out Your Drawers
Check Your Closets

Any Lion will be happy to accept your old eyeglasses for
recycling. Just bring your old eyeglasses with you to any Lions
event.
Each year, the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center supplies
60-80 missions sponsored by church groups, physicians and
other organizations with eyeglasses. In addition to providing eyeglasses
for under privileged children and adults in Texas, the center also supplies
eyeglasses to distribution centers in the Republic of Ghana, Nigeria and
Brazil.
The center organizes optical training teams composed of Lions,
doctors and opticians to work with Lions in developing countries.
