The Hilary B. Doran Scholarship, presented by the Del Rio Host Lions Club, is a college scholarship for seniors graduating in the spring of each year.  This year we are offering two scholarships in the amount of $2,500.00 each.  To qualify the applicant must be a graduate of a high school in Val Verde County or similar institution (public school, private school, home school, charter school, etc) who is scheduled to enter the fall semester of an accredited college or university.

The applicant must provide the scholarship committee the following information:

1. An up-to-date copy of their student transcript.

2. A letter of acceptance from an accredited institution.

3. A privacy wavier signed by the student or a parent/guardian if the applicant is under 18 years of age.

4. A two page handwritten letter.  (This letter is extremely important for anyone wishing to receive this scholarship.)  Letters that exceed two pages or that are not handwritten will not be considered.

The following categories will be scored: GPA, academic rigor, activities, honors, character and need.  The GPA and academic rigor can be scored from the transcript.  All other category scores will come from the applicant's letter. 

If a tie exists, the members of the Del Rio Host Lions Scholarship Committee may interview the top five applicants.  The two selected applicants will be honored by the club with a presentation ceremony after graduation.  All applicants will receive a letter from the committee after the selections are finalized.
